My short biography
Hi, I’m Rozemijn (Rose-Mine), and I draw and write pages that offer hope, strength, and new perspectives. My words speak with the warmth of a good friend. Only they are voiced through inanimate things, like the landscape around us.
My work began during the worldwide pandemic, a time when many of us, including me, felt isolated and lonely. In these times, when people weren’t always around, nature was. In those quiet moments, I found comfort in the landscapes surrounding me and in the messages they might have shared, if only they could speak.
I was born and raised in Zutphen, a historic town in the Netherlands. At 18, I moved to Utrecht, and it has been home ever since.
My mission
In everything I create, I hope to remind people that they’re not alone, and that even the quietest parts of life can hold encouragement. My work is meant to be a small place of comfort: a gentle pause in this rapid and overwhelming world. Some pieces speak of joy, others of sorrow. Sometimes they whisper a reminder to be brave, sometimes they carry big words, and sometimes only the smallest ones. But above all, they are meant to reflect what they have always done for me: to remind you that you are not alone in what you’re going through.
My purpose
I’ve always believed that the world speaks in quiet ways. Even though I didn’t say much when I was younger, I constantly created stories in my mind and imagined a world where everyone was kind to one another. Today, I feel incredibly lucky to have been given the chance to create a book: one I was able fill with wonder and awe.
There were times when everyday life dimmed my sense of wonder, but I’m grateful it kept finding its way back to me, again and again. Creating this book has become a way for me to stay connected to that feeling, and I can only hope it does the same for anyone who reads it. Each page is crafted to bring a moment of peace, joy, wonder, or awe, or to offer a warm, gentle voice during some of life’s more challenging chapters.
My creative process
My creative process begins long before I write or draw. It starts with allowing myself to fully feel and move through my own emotions. When I sense it’s time for an adventure, I follow that pull. When I feel sadness asking for space, I let it stay for as long as it needs. Only after I’ve lived through these inner landscapes do I find room to create landscapes on paper.
Allowing myself to feel, and by making space in my life for those feelings, I am able to create from a place of honesty and openness. The words and drawings come naturally. They are shaped by what I've experienced, and softened by what I've learned.
Am I perfect in feeling and allowing myself to feel? No. Far from it. Every time I think I have figured this life out, a new challenge appears from around the corner. This is where the title of my book comes from: the beautiful things along the way. Because there is beauty to be found in every step of life. Every step? Yes, even the ones we take in the dark, when the path feels cloudy, or when everything ahead seems uncertain.
But when even the smallest light appears, fragile, unexpected or unsure, that tiny glimmer may be an opening. It may be a reminder that even the difficult moments have wisdom to share. Not to romanticize dark times, but to let them soften your heart instead of hardening it.
Thank you for walking with me along the beautiful things.
